Taking care of the worktop

Looking after your worktop is important, with the right care and maintenance your worktop will look amazing for a life time

QUARTZ / PORCELAIN COUNTERTOP MAINTENANCE METHODS AND PRECAUTIONS.

  1. For day to day cleaning, use warm, soapy water to clean your countertop and wipe down with a damp cloth.
  2. Food or most household stains can be wiped with a none abrasive sponge/scourer or wet cloth dipped with a little cleanser or soapy water, and then cleaned with clean water.
  3. If the countertop comes into contact with a non-neutral cleanser or chemical solvent, please wash it with clean water immediately.
  4. Clean up spills promptly, especially those from high risk staining substances like turmeric, vinegar, or wine. Quartz is resistant to stains, but prolonged exposure to certain substances may cause discoloration.
  5. While quartz is scratch-resistant, it is not scratch-proof. Avoid using sharp objects directly on the surface. Always use chopping boards and take care when handling utensils or appliances to prevent scratches.
  6. Do not use abrasive or harsh chemical cleaners, as they can damage the resin and the quartz surface. Opt for non-abrasive, pH-balanced cleaners for best results.
  7. Quartz is a durable material, but it is not indestructible. Avoid dropping heavy objects on the surface or edges, as this can cause chips or cracks.
  8. Periodically inspect the worktop for any signs of damage or wear. Address any issues promptly to prevent them from worsening over time.

A MAN-MADE MATERIAL, QUARTZ / PORCELAIN HAS MORE STAIN-RESISTANCE THAN GRANITE AND MARBLE BUT STILL REQUIRES CARE AND ATTENTION TO KEEP IT LOOKING GREAT.

Staining with quartz is less likely and they tend to be easier to remove if you act promptly. It’s a hard-wearing surface which will last a long time if looked after properly.

Maintaining the pristine appearance of your quartz countertops requires regular cleaning and preventative measures.

  1. To prevent the accumulation of dust and crumbs, ensure daily cleaning – ideally after each use
  2. After each use, wipe down your countertops with a soft, damp micro-fiber cloth, e-cloth or none abrasive scourer to remove any spills or debris.
  3. Promptly address spills to prevent them from drying and staining.
  4. Avoid abrasive cleaners
  5. After cleaning, use a dry microfiber cloth to buff the quartz surface to a shine
  6. Do not use metal scrapers to remove stubborn marks
  7. Don’t use acidic cleaners containing high concentrations of vinegar, bleach, ammonia, nitric acid, sulphuric acid, sugar soap

By following these simple steps, you can keep your quartz countertops looking their best for years to come.

THERMAL EXPOSURE

To avoid damaging a Quartz surface, do not place hot pans or pots directly onto the surface. Use a suitable place mat/chopping board, trivet or heat resistant mat to prevent a sudden change in temperature. Overheating quartz can lead to numerous issues, including; a gradual breakdown of the surface, making it harder to clean and more prone to staining, the cracking of the quartz worktop due to thermal shock or scorching of the surface.

Porcelain has a much higher resistance to heat damage but we advise a common sense approach, use worktop protectors when possible.

TOUGHER STAINS & MARKS

For stubborn marks or stains, that will not come off with everyday cleaning processes, you can use Jif lemon juice. Apply the product to the affected area and let it sit for up to 20 minutes. Then, wipe the area with a non-abrasive cloth/scourer and rinse thoroughly with warm soapy water. Don’t be afraid to place some pressure on the area when scrubbing with this product, but remember to rinse afterwards.

If the stain persists, you can use Cillit Bang Degreaser (please check the label as it will say whether it is suitable for stone worktops). However, do not leave these products on the surface. Wipe them off immediately with a non-abrasive cloth using soft, circular motions. Rinse the area thoroughly with warm soapy water to ensure no residue is left behind.
